Keeping It Simple

blueberries

Yeah, it's a cliche, but sometimes less really is more.

Take this method for canning blueberries. It's really just blueberries in a jar - no sugar, no water, nothing but berries. And because of that, the fruit's flavor is as lusciously intense as it was when fresh.

Or take this 2-ingredient recipe for naturally fermented pickled cherries. No fancy equipment required, very little active time in the kitchen, and what you end up with is an OMG delicious, show-off appetizer for your next party.

My vote for the all-time easiest and most useful food preservation "recipe" of all time goes to pickled hot peppers (okay, I'm a big fan of spicy).

"Where do you find the time?" (to can food, freeze it, dehydrate it, etc.) is a question I hear frequently. Give me five minutes and I'll give you a jar of something delicious that will last you till next summer.
