Luscious, Red, and Goes with Chocolate

When I think about Valentine's Day food, I think of sweetness and the color red. The sweet, red fruits that match that description aren't in season where I live at this time of year. Fortunately, I can use fruit that was frozen when it was in season.

Smooth, creamy, naturally red raspberry curd, for example, pairs gorgeously with dark chocolate, another Valentine's favorite. I didn't get around to making any curd when raspberries were in season here. What I did get around to was freezing the berries from my garden.

Whether you're working with homegrown fruit or taking some help from the store, frozen fruit works great in sweet preserves.

And it's a nice way to bring summer's warmth to a February holiday.
